Fire protection

Fire protection

Fire protection requirements aim to protect people, animals and property against the dangers and effects of fires and explosions. They are intended for all owners and users of buildings, but also for all other people involved in their planning, construction, operation or maintenance.

The AEAI standard, its associated directives and the cantonal regulations set the fire protection conditions that must be respected in new construction or renovation/transformation projects. They apply to all buildings and other works, from individual houses to concert halls and apartment buildings. The requirements vary greatly depending on the use and type of building.

The directives are structured according to three main families of preventive measures: construction measures such as the load-bearing system, compartmentalisation and doors; technical measures such as security lighting, fire detection, sprinklers and lightning rods and organisational measures aimed at defining evacuation procedures, intervention plans and ensuring the sustainability of the fire protection concept.

Our office guides you through every phase in the implementation of these measures, from the feasibility study to commissioning of the agreed measures.

Realisation and follow-up of fire protection concepts

Any construction or renovation project must comply with the standard published by the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurance Establishments (AEAI).

The 2015 edition of the standard and directives published by the AEAI introduced the notion of a quality assurance manager, who is responsible for ensuring that the project complies with the provisions laid down by the AEAI, through a fire protection concept.

In this context, our office offers the following services:

  • Establishment of the fire protection concept for authorisation request
  • Assistance in the design of facilities and architectural details from the tender phase
  • Work-monitoring and support during the implementation phase
  • Organization of tests and acceptance of the work with the fire protection authority during the commissioning phase
  • Issuance of the fire protection declaration of conformity

Our team of safety officers and fire protection technicians

Each of our employees in fire protection benefits from past experiences in the fields of security or fire protection, at a level of study (designer), production (project manager, installer), operation of building (site manager, security officer) or operational (firefighter), allowing us to offer comprehensive expertise to our customers.

Our expertise

Orqual has been providing fire protection services since 2006 and has developed its network of partners to become a major player in fire protection in Geneva. Orqual is able to support you on your projects whether they are located in the canton of Geneva or the Canton of Vaud. Our experience allows us to quickly and effectively understand the expectations of the fire protection authority and the fire protection issues of new, renovation and transformation projects.

We believe that each project is unique and that fire protection provisions must be anticipated and integrated as early as possible in a project. From the first phases of study, in collaboration with the architect and the other specialized agents, we establish a holistic concept that respects the architectural aspect of the work, the wishes of the client and any construction constraints, operation, concern for economy and compliance with fire protection regulations.

We commit ourselves to:

  • establish a concept that optimally meets the challenges of the project
  • propose several solutions to project owners and agents to meet their objectives
  • collaborate in a proactive and rigorous way, listening to and addressing your concerns throughout the process, in order to achieve optimal results

We take care to present and explain the concept of fire protection at each level of a project (works management, agents and companies), so that everyone can take ownership of the fire protection measures and a collective can implement these measures on site.
