Kezako: the SARA method

A problem-solving model used by the police

SARA is an acronym for Scanning – Analysis – Response – Assessment.

Scanning – Analysis – Response – Assessment

This is a problem-solving method commonly used in the security and police worlds . It was developed at the end of the 1980s within the Newport Police Department (USA) by John Eck and William Spelman as part of their experiments with techniques focused on problem-solving techniques.

Working in ‘problem-solving’ mode is a profoundly different approach to policing. . Indeed, rather than adopting a reactive strategy by treating only the symptoms of the problem, the police officer must seek to understand the causes and then attempt, with the help of the community, to resolve complex and recurring problems by setting up proactive measures.

On a macro level, security issues can be addressed according to the SARA model.
